World Cup Skier Jean Daniel Pession and Girlfriend Tragically Die in Mountain Accident
In a tragic incident that has shocked the winter sports community, Italian World Cup speed skier Jean Daniel Pession and his girlfriend, Elisa Arlian, have died in a mountain accident in northwest Italy. Pession, 28 years old, and Arlian, 26, were avid skiers and both served as skiing instructors. Their bodies were discovered still tied together, suggesting that they had been roped for safety during their climb. The accident saw them plummet approximately 2,300 feet from the summit.
The couple was reported missing after they failed to return home from their climbing expedition. Rescuers used their cellphone signals to locate them, deploying helicopters to aid in the search. Unfortunately, the rescue mission turned into a recovery operation as the couple was found deceased.
Jean Daniel Pession was a well-accomplished skier, ranking 15th in the 2021 World Cup standings for speed skiing and 22nd in the 2022 World Championships in Vars.
