The $5 Meal Deal includes a choice of either a McDouble or McChicken sandwich, a small order of fries, a 4-piece nugget, and a small beverage. The promotion will be available at select McDonald's locations starting June 25, offering a more economically-friendly option in its menu lineup.

McDonald's intends for the new value meal to also counteract the growing perception that eating at fast-food chains has become prohibitively expensive. Data shows a significant rise in the average prices of McDonald’s menu items over recent years, with a Big Mac now costing $5.29, up from $4.39 in 2019. Similarly, the price of a Quarter Pounder with cheese has increased from $4.49 in 2019 to $5.39 currently.

In conjunction with the $5 Meal Deal, McDonald's is continuing its 'Free Fries Friday' promotion, which offers customers a free medium fry with a minimum purchase of $1 through the McDonald's app. This promotion will run until the end of the year, providing another avenue for customers to maximize their savings.

While the $5 value meal is a nationwide campaign, local franchisees will have the opportunity to introduce their own neighborhood-specific deals to cater to the preferences of their customer base. Examples include a 'buy one, get one' $1 breakfast sandwich deal in Memphis, Tennessee, and a double cheeseburger and small fries pairing for $3.50 in Columbus, Ohio.

Despite the promising outlook and the attempt to bring more affordable offerings to the table, the $5 value meal has faced criticism from some franchisees. Their concerns center on the sustainability of profit margins under this pricing model, questioning the long-term financial impact on individual franchise operations.
